The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of
things, but their inward significance.

I have loved art all my life. I enjoy drawing or painting interesting things I've seen or experienced. Sometimes my art seems without theme or focus, but that’s just because I feel so inspired by so much!
I’m easily lost and enraptured with color and texture and to a lesser degree line and shape. I suppose that is why I find nature so inspirational. Works with multiple layers appeal to me because that is how we are as human beings. There’s so much more to us than what is on the visible surface.
Artists and art movements that have influenced my work are John Biggers, Georgia O’Keeffe, Jonathan Green, Abstract Expressionism and Impressionism. The idea of capturing a moment in time is so intriguing. Art is also a spiritual experience for me. I am always inspired by my belief and faith in God; for without Him nothing is possible.
As a teacher, I tried to encourage my students to look beyond the surface and search for deeper meanings in the art we both studied and created. Hopefully they are still doing that.
